Lauren Davis - Educator / Co-Deputy Principal / Pedagogical coach - Maths

Hello, my name is Lauren and I am very fortunate to continue to be a part of this learning community in 2022. Over the past 6 years, I have had the privilege of taking on many different roles within the school, including Prep educator, Learning and Teaching Leader, Numeracy Leader, Deputy Principal and during the end of last year as Acting Principal. I have a Masters Degree in Educational Leadership and am highly passionate about relationships and the development of people (including myself!).

The St. John’s community is a place where we are able to live out our values of learning through play and projects, using children’s interests to drive learning experiences, developing character traits and learning dispositions, all while building strong relationships between all stakeholders. The St. John’s environment has played a huge part in shaping me into the educator I am today, and I am very grateful to be learning with and from the staff, families and children in 2022.

When I’m at home, you’ll find me reading, gardening and playing with Billy, my two year old son. You will often find us down the coast during holidays, exploring the beach and being with nature. Our family is excitedly awaiting the arrival of a brother or sister for Billy in April/May 2022.

Karen Dodemaide - Co-Deputy Principal and Wellbeing

Hello St. John's Community. I am delighted to be joining the staff of St. John's School in 2022 in the role of Co-Deputy Principal and Wellbeing. For the last four years I have been a Religious Education Leader; a role I have enjoyed immensely. I have been an educator for 30 years and I feel very privileged to have supported children to achieve their personal learning goals; developing the skills, knowledge and learning dispositions they need to help them grow and flourish. Promoting children’s voice and active engagement through a child centered approach, is a core belief that drives me as an educator. Creating conditions that support the safety, wellbeing and inclusion of all is integral to learning success.

I am a lifelong learner and I have a Master's Degree in Educational Leadership and Administration. I have also recently been undertaking postgraduate study in Religious Education. I look forward to working in partnership with all families, celebrating the richness and diversity of this wonderful community in the light of its 100 year old story. In the role of Wellbeing Leader, I am particularly focussed on supporting children, staff and families as we re-establish a sense of connection, which has been significantly disrupted over these past two years of the pandemic. I look forward to learning the St. John's way and sharing all that I have to offer. Through our positive and respectful relationships, we may be the light of Christ for one another.

In my time away from work, I can usually be found on a boundary line, courtside or on a pool deck. I am the proud mother of three very sporty children and it gives me great joy to see them all live life to the full. My happy place is my garden which has become a lovely, calming and mindful hobby. Having grown up in North Footscray, I am also a proud Western Bulldogs fan.

Daniela De Luca - Pedagogical Coach of Literacy

Hi St John’s community! I’m excited to once again be part of this vibrant and beautiful community in 2022. Working in Education is an absolute privilege. To witness the delight of children’s discovery and the wonder of their curiosity every day, is a true gift. St John’s is more than just a school, it is a feeling; and one you cannot describe in words, thanks to the unique stories that are woven into this rich tapestry of our school.

I find joy in spending time with family and friends, dining at the many restaurants and cafes on offer in Melbourne, cooking and baking (I’ve mastered the art of sourdough making this year!), and exploring our wonderful city, State, country and planet! 2022 will be an exciting year for my little family, with my eldest, Vivienne starting Prep, and my youngest, Julian starting kinder!

Chevon Adamidis - Learning and Teaching Leader

Hi! My name is Chevon and I have had the privilege of being a part of the St. John’s family for the past six years! I have loved being a part of the school’s journey and am proud to work in a setting that continually places ‘children at the centre’. I have had the joy of taking on many roles at St.John’s and in 2022, I will be the Learning and Teaching Leader. I am passionate about re-imagining what success at school looks like for our learners. I look forward to leading our educators in empowering our children to achieve growth in their learning; and providing our children with abundant opportunities to discover and explore their own curiosities.

When I am not at St.John’s, you will most likely find me on walks with my husband, Johnny, and my son, George...or out and about enjoying a coffee with my close friends!

I look forward to reconnecting with all of our lovely families and getting to know our newest community members.

Jordan Fry - Educator Prep Hub

Hi! My name is Jordan and I am a very proud member of St John’s beautiful community!

I am very excited to be working alongside Patrick once again in the Prep Hub for 2022.

I believe that children should be at the centre of their learning, and have the freedom to explore and discover their individual passions and interests through the 100 Languages of Learning. Forming genuine and meaningful relationships with students and families is vital in supporting students and in fostering a love for learning.

In my spare time you can find me with my fur babies: Bella the dog and Hank the cat, or spending time with my parents on their farm in Geelong.

Kerri Crofts - Educator Two Hub

I have learnt alongside the children at St. John’s for the past 6 months and enjoyed every moment. I look forward to working with the same children for another year. For the past 40 years I have worked and learnt alongside children. I am committed to education and live by the belief that learning should be participatory, active, communal, collaborative and wholly dedicated to the construction of meaning in life. I have experience of many sides of education both state and private and I have also lectured at university level in early childhood. I have been inspired by the Educational Project in Reggio Emilia in Italy and have been fortunate to have the opportunity to deepen my understanding and knowledge of their research in early childhood education through my involvement in many study tours to the city itself. This inspiration led me to introduce a Reggio Emilia inspired program into the primary school at Collingwood College, where I worked for many years. I am eager to continue to contribute to the development and progress of a school that seeks to provide the child with opportunities to flourish as a whole person. I am excited to be part of a team of educators who envision a powerful, positive image of the children and celebrate them as uniquely creative individuals. I am learning more at St. John’s and I am brimming with positive energy in anticipation of the next chapter in my career. I am also very lucky to be married to my best friend Nick and to have four wonderful daughters.

I have a passion for creating learning environments that are engaging and immersive for our children. Sustainability is also a passion of mine, so I like to garden with my class and play with natural materials to create warm spaces.

When I’m not at St John’s, I’m exploring every corner of the beautiful parks and lakes that surround Melbourne with my husband and sons Hunter and Gene. Besides exploring, we love to dance, swim, role play (usually as baddies or Kung Fu Masters) and whip up batches of banana pancakes.

I am excited to once again be immersed in Discovery, Projects and small/whole group Learning in 2022! I will then be taking long service leave for the remainder of the year, where I hope to spend time with my family interstate and also maybe squeeze in some travel. If I’ve learnt anything from the last few years it’s to remain flexible at all times, so who knows what I’ll get up to!!

Jayka Bugay - Specialist Teacher - Japanese LOT

Hi there! I’m Jayka (aka Jayka-sensei) and I am the Japanese language teacher for St. John’s. I also teach Japanese at Annunciation Primary School every Friday. I taught as an English teacher in Japan for five years from 2010-2015 (humblebrag) and did the typical Aussie working holiday in the UK from 2015-2017. These experiences taught me how to get out of my shell, find my confidence and to find my love of learning. This inevitably led me to pursue my love of sharing experiences and knowledge with others by completing my Masters of Teaching at Victoria University. I look forward to continuing to uphold St John’s philosophy of teaching to educate young people with hope, openness, curiosity and enthusiasm.
