Our image of the child

‘At St. John’s, we strongly believe that children are at the centre when given authentic and meaningful experiences. They flourish when their passions and interests are acknowledged and valued. Children are empowered when they take ownership for their learning. They have a right to develop autonomy through discovery.’

(St. John’s Staff, 2018)

Letter from the Principal

Discover, Create, Innovate

It is with great pride, excitement and energy I lead St John’s community. St John’s Primary School is drenched in community and intimately connected with people. Our children, staff and families are all connected, dedicated and committed to learning and teaching in a fast pace and ever evolving world.

Originally, St. John’s was established as the first Parish church and school in 1922, St. John’s was under the guidance and leadership of the Sisters of St Joseph for seventy-seven years.

The main focus has always been education, especially of children with fewest opportunities. They have always worked closely with the school and community.

The Josephite connection continues to remain strong with guidance from Sister Joan Healy. Today, St John’s boasts a presence of twenty-one different nationalities.

Since the first Victorian foundation in 1889, Josephites have served the community.

We continually strive for a school where all children needs are met through “personalised learning”. We do this through intense collaborative planning, using current research practice, engaging experts and building a culture of analysing data for student and teacher use.

We believe in a school that responds to the needs of the world. We provide a safe school where laughter is heard and fun is had by all. Our family feel is precious and one to which we feel very committed.

We understand that in Catholic Social Teaching, parents are the first educators of their children and parent engagement in learning is essential. We understand and value education that is caring and inclusive of all families, particularly families new to Australia.

We promote young people who are resilient, empathetic and positively engaged in our community, that they may live life to its fullest.

St. John’s continues to be a welcoming learning community where dreams are lived and the impossible is made possible.
