Dear Families and Friends of St John’s,
I can’t believe this is the final newsletter for the year. As the last few weeks of term become busy and crowded, I hope everyone can take a few moments to look after themselves.
It is just not possible, in this brief address, to capture the amazing life and curriculum of our school during 2019. During the year, our students, staff and parents have had numerous opportunities to experience a wide range of programs and activities that have enabled rich, deep learning to occur. I am hugely grateful to everyone for their contribution to the Spirit and life of St John’s.
I’d like to take the opportunity to thank all our beautiful families within the St John’s community, I feel blessed to be part of this community and share in the wonderful experiences together. I’d like to thank our wonderful staff, whom amaze me with their commitment and dedication to our ways of learning and the continual focus on growth for all.
We wish Kaylene, Grant and Hayley a smooth transition to their new roles in their new schools. We hope you feel welcomed and excited entering your new spaces. We wish you all the very best.
Enjoy a well deserved break, take care and most of all stay safe.
A very Merry Christmas to all.

Thank you to all of our families who joined us for our nativity story ‘It’s a Party’ last night. It was absolutely wonderful to see everyone gathered together to share in the joy of the story of the birth of Jesus. Lots of awesome dance moves and animated actors made it a fantastic way to finish the year as a community, we hope you enjoyed it as much as we did!
We will gather as a whole school four times in the coming days to mark the Season of Advent. We will light our Advent candles of Hope, Love, Joy and Peace and reflect on Advent as the season of new beginnings. A new liturgical year begins on the First Sunday of Advent and it brings us images of transformation and hope. It is the season of the impossible becoming possible. During the season of Advent we hear a strong call to action. In the gospels of the first two weeks, John the Baptist cries out, “Stay awake!” and “Prepare a way for the Lord”. We are challenged to be fully aware and to see and clear away the stumbling blocks along the path of life, particularly for those trapped in poverty.
We will gather on Joan’s Yard for a short reflection on the following days, please feel very welcome to join us:
Friday 13th Dec, 8:50am
Monday 16th Dec, 8:50am
Tuesday 17th Dec, 8:50am
Tuesday 17th Dec, 2.55pm
End of Year Mass
We warmly welcome you to join us for our End of Year Mass which will be focused on; ‘Joy in Mary saying Yes’. If you are available please join us on Friday, 13th Dec, 11:30am, St John’s Church.
On behalf of our Social Justice Leaders, Keira and Cindy, we say a massive THANK YOU for all of your support this year. From Project Compassion, to our Annual Winter Appeal to our more recent Christmas food/gift collection we are reminded time and time again of the compassion and generosity of our community.
Christ our Light, shine in our lives with hope and promise.
We await your coming with wonder.
Christ our Hope, illuminate our hearts with your grace.
We await your coming with gratitude.
Christ our Joy, brighten our homes with your presence.
We await your coming with delight.
Christ our Peace, glow brightly in each moment.
We await your coming with serenity.
Wishing you a happy and joy-filled Christmas. Looking forward to hearing about everyone’s break in 2020!

For the past two weeks at OSHClub we have been focusing on the learning outcome of building children’s confidence as independent learners. In the creative corner students have been learning drawing techniques, developing fine motors skills, and having sensory engagement through experimentation with modelling clay. Beyblade battles (very popular at the moment) have allowed the students to practice and learn group cooperation. Outdoor play has ensured that they develop their physical health and wellbeing. We were also lucky to celebrate Freya’s and Calden’s birthdays.
OSHClub is open all day on School Closure days:-
