Dear Families and Friends,
There is a great vibe as we move around the school – a very busy vibe.
Our Grade Prep transition period has begun – it has been a pleasure meeting new and old families. Our existing families have supported this transition through leading focus groups and sharing their wealth of knowledge with our incoming parents. Thank you for all of your continued support.
Children are beginning to launch projects, make new discoveries and beginning to plan their next project. We hope all children transition into 2020 with discoveries and projects already underway. As our whole group Inquiry – ‘There’s a world inside my nose’ (Geography) finishes we begin to explore Advent. Our Advent Inquiry will focus on Peace on Earth as the central message. ‘Advent is the season of new beginnings. A new liturgical year begins on the First Sunday of Advent and it beckons to us with images of transformation and hope. It is the season of the impossible becoming possible.’ This image of transformation and hope will underpin our exploration in the next coming weeks. I look forward to the deep thinking and creating around this image.
We think especially of Chevon this Saturday as she marries her love Johnny. May Chevon and Johnny have a beautiful day full of love, happiness and dancing!!
Enjoy this wonderful weather.
Prayer Gathering Yr 3-6
We warmly welcome you to join our Year 3-6 children for a Prayer Gathering on Friday 22nd November at 2:45pm. The children have been exploring the concept of solidarity, focusing on two key Scripture verses:
“I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you gave me clothing, I was sick and you took care of me, I was in prison and you visited me” (Matt 25:31-40) and
“Blessed are the peacemakers: they shall be called the children of God” (Matt 5:9).
As we are almost in the Season of Advent we are reminded that peace on earth and goodwill towards all are central to our faith. Solidarity with others calls on us to be people of peace.
Food/Gifts collection for Way of the West & MacKillop Family Services
Our Christmas tree is up in the Hall and already there are some food items and gifts under the tree, ready to be donated to those in need. Any donations of food, including tinned food, rice, pasta, honey, Christmas puddings, biscuits etc. will be gratefully received. Toys and gifts for all age groups would also be sincerely appreciated.
We will finish collecting on Friday 6th December so that the volunteers from Way of the West and MacKillop Family Services have enough time to create hampers, ready for Christmas. Thank you for your support of families in our local community.
2019 Victorian Schools Garden Awards
A small group of children represented our school at the 2019 Victorian Schools Garden Awards today. We had been informed that we had won a Regional Prize for our beautiful farm, however when we got there we were thrilled to discover that we had also won a prize for the ‘Most Engaging Garden for Learning Award’. The certificate was presented to us, along with a voucher for $1,000 worth of garden supplies, we also received $350 for the Regional Award so we are looking forward to getting some ideas from the children and spending the vouchers to make our farm even more awesome! We met Costa from Gardening Australia and had some time to do a little planting of our own as well as making seed bombs – more on those next time!

This week we welcomed a new staff member at OSHClub, Megan Guy. Megan is here everyday, except Wednesday afternoons. Last week we were focused on children’s confidence and involved learning outcomes. Children made cookies and decorated them, they made their own play dough from scratch. They created their own stories and made novels. We also introduced a new activity, community service and math challenge. Children are engaged and learn to become socially responsible and show respect for the environment.
OSHClub is open on School Closure days from 6:30 am to 6 pm on 28th January, 29th January and 30th January 2020. OSHClub is closed from 20th December 2019 until 27th January 2020.
