We would like to thank all of our wonderful families for their support, love and kindness over the last few weeks. Year 5/6 Wakakirri performance

Our 5/6’s performed live on stage at the Clocktower Centre last Thursday. To see all of their hard work come to life on stage was a moment that we will always treasure. From coordinating the lighting, working as backstage crew, speaking and performing in front of a big audience, costuming, making props, dancing, movement, sharing the story of women’s fight for the right to vote and everything in between our students truly lit up the stage. #couldnotbeprouder

Book Week Parade – Monday 19th August @ 8.45am

Dear Families,

St John’s will be celebrating Book Week 2019 with a fabulous day of fun-filled activities and a performance for the children on Monday 19th August.

The children and staff will be invited to dress up to celebrate the theme of Reading is my secret power! There will be a Book Week Parade at 8.45am and families and friends are invited to join us for the parade by the children. Some ideas to get you thinking are:

  • Your favourite book or character, such as Our Granny, Wilfred Gordon McDonald Partridge, Fox, The Very Hungry Caterpillar, Harry Potter, Nemo, Where’s Wally, Mad Hatter, Arabian Prince, A Green Sheep, Spot and so many more!!
  • A special person in your life.
  • Someone you admire.
  • Your favourite part of a book or story.

Be creative with what you have at home – we promote a sustainable approach to costuming for the day.

At the end of the day, St. John’s children will watch an exciting, inventive performance by School Performance Tours. The performance focuses on a story about facing your fears and looking at things from another perspective. It is also a story of things not always being as they seem.

We are looking forward to a great day celebrating the wonderful books and literature we have to read and enjoy. Please do not hesitate to email on kcarlin@sjfootscray.catholic.edu.au if you have any questions.

Jeans for Genes Day – Friday 2nd August

1 in 20 Aussie kids face a birth defect or genetic disease.

Kids just want to be kids, but instead of playing sports with their friends or catching butterflies on a sunny day, these kids are getting liver transplants, taking dozens of medications, or getting their next dose of chemotherapy. It shouldn’t be this way. You can help the scientists at Children’s Medical Research Institute find cures, so these kids can go back to being kids.

On Friday 2nd August St. John’s will have a casual clothes day to raise money for Genes for Jeans Day. We ask that you donate a gold coin to the cause.

Thank you for your support.

Prep’s 100 Days of School

Many of you would know that we have been eagerly awaiting the celebration of the Prep’s 100th day of school!

We will be celebrating this special day next week on Friday 9th August 2019!! For our celebration, the preps will have a shared morning tea. This means that on Friday, students will need to bring in a small plate of food. This could be fruit, crackers and cheese, muffins etc. Please provide a list of ingredients for your child’s item and we would appreciate if you did not bring in anything containing nuts (due to allergies). Students will still need to bring their lunch.

As well as bringing in some food to share, the children are invited to dress up in something in the theme of “100”. For example, this may be a decorated t-shirt with the number 100 or as a 100 year old person, with a walking stick, a grandma or grandpa wig etc. (Google has great suggestions). During our day, Discovery time will be spent exploring all things that may represent 100.

We can’t wait to share this day together! Please contact us if you have any questions or concerns about this.

Thank you,

Lisa, Lien, and Jenna

Hello everyone,

Over the last two weeks we have been busy playing and learning Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) at OSHClub. Children take ownership of their own activities, children lead other children, helping each other making playdough, Oobleck and chicken wraps.  We introduced loose parts activities. OSHClub members get a surprise bag full of arts materials. The children love being creative, they like to express and share their ideas and having fun with their peers. We even made a robotic hand from cardboard and we are in the early stages of making a solar boat.

OSHClub members learn how to use money for everyday activities while we had yogurt and granola (no nuts) for afternoon tea.  We have been eating healthy, homemade corn chips, fresh orange juice, yogurt & homemade strawberry milk shake.

We are in need of recyclables; cardboard boxes, tubes, jars, tins, plastic tubs… Any of these items would be greatly appreciated for craft activities. Additionally, if you have any unwanted dress-ups, dolls, toys, board games or sports equipment that you no longer want, please drop it into Oshclub and we will gratefully take them off your hands.

Thank you

Novita, Jasymn, Helena and Lewis
